Mountain of trust
In my classroom, we use the Mountain of Trust as a way to track behavior. Each student has a "climber" that they use to move themselves on the mountain. Each day, the students start at Basecamp. During the course of the school day, students can make a positive choice to “climb” their hiker up the mountain. Similarly, if a child has made a poor choice behaviorally, or if they have not shown responsibility for their class, they may be asked to “rappel” down the mountain. There are six levels on the Mountain of Trust. On the top of the mountain there is PEAK, below peak is CLIMBING, then BASECAMP, RAPPELLING, and TRAILHEAD. Students can move their climber fluidly throughout the day based on their positive or negative choices.
At the end of the day, students record where they are on the mountain by collecting play money and keeping it in their "bank". They also color in the day on their monthly behavior calendar according to their position. The calendar will stay in your child's homework folder so you can see their daily behavior. At the end of the week, students are able to combine coins and ask for the equivalent amount in higher value coins. For example, if a student receives a nickel and two dimes during the week they can exchange those coins in for a quarter. At the end of every month, students can go "shopping" in my school store to spend their money.
The coin amounts go as follows:
Peak (purple)= 10 cents
Climbing (blue)= 5 cents
Base camp (green)= 3 cents
Rappelling (orange)= 2 cents
Trail head (red)= 1 cent
